In 1984, Wes craven created and directed “a nightmare on elm street”
which became a surprising commercial success, rave reviews and a cult
following to this day~!
Please pardon the term “spawned” a successful
line of sequels and highly detailed and sought after collectible action
figures pioneered by Mcfarlane toys with their elite Movie Maniacs
series that came out in the late 1980’s. These pinpoint detailed with
lifelike hues action figures included none other than Freddy  Krueger
himself a perfect rendering (played with rapt abandon by Robert
Englund), one even has a Little Freddy” as an extra.
Happily armed with 4 long razor sharp blades embedded in the fingers of his gloved hand.
Freddy thirsts for revenge to be taken out on the children of the angry mob that
 burned poor Freddy alive.
Freddy does so by entering the dreams of
his teenage victims, if Freddy kills them in their dreams, they then
perish in the real waking world. And bit of film trivia, Johnny Depp was
one of the victims in the original film.
Craven based his story
from the refugees of the Khmer Rouge genocide  in Cambodia. Many
suffered from incredible disturbing nightmares after which, they refused
to sleep-there appeared “sudden unexplained death syndrome” among the
men. To add the finishing touch to his concept for the film upon hearing
“Dream Weaver by Gary Wright, the concept was sealed~!
Ironically
Craven was bullied at school by none other than Freddy Krueger hence the
killers name was born into horror film history.
Freddy’s sweater
was from the design of DC Comics character Plastic Man. Then colors used
where from Craven reading  an article in Scientific America that those
were the most clashing
 colors to the human retina.
And Freddy’s tale will continue…..
Smiles
